PreciPoint has completed a seven-digit growth financing round in spring 2020. The round was led by bm|t and supported by all other existing investors, who showed their continued commitment to the company. The significant investment will be used to fund the next stage in the company´s development. “We are very delighted to invest in PreciPoint´s strong team, its technology and its vision to fight cancer“, commented Stefan Jahn, Senior Investment Manager at bm|t. PreciPoint delivers scalable solutions for automated digitization and analytics for microscopy workflows. PreciPoint thus tackles a key challenge in cancer diagnostics. Its solutions and products enable a wide range of quality, effectiveness, and efficiency gains for users. As digital microscopy accelerates workflows PreciPoint enables new business models and modes of collaboration and improves quality of output.
About digital microscopy
Today, almost 100% of microscopic analysis in life sciences is still performed manually. While digital microscopy has been around for quite some time, adoption in the past has been slow. Cancer tissue, sperm, yeast or plants, among others, are still analysed using analogue microscopes — which is not that different compared to 30–40 years ago. That is expected to change. “We expect the 2020ies to be remembered as the decade when microscopy went truly digital”, Nicolas Weiss and Dominik Gerber, the CEOs of PreciPoint, confidently state. During the next 5 to 10 years, the market for microscopic cancer diagnostics alone will grow to 3–5 billion EUR p.a. PreciPoint aims to shape this market and participate in its rapid growth.
Preparing for strong growth
PreciPoint offers innovative microscopy hardware and robotics to multiply throughput and its customizable and scalable software solutions allow for smooth integration into existing workflows. PreciPoint distinguishes itself clearly from other market participants by providing full solutions tailored to specific use cases, rather than focusing on microscopy hardware alone. While its research solutions are already currently sold to users all across the globe, the company has ambitious plans to fuel future growth. In the pipeline are AI- and blockchain-applications and an extensive patent portfolio to reinforce and protect its technology. The company has also made significant progress to establish partnerships with well-known segment specialists and to attain international medical certifications, both of which will significantly boost the company´s market access and reach. PreciPoint now has over 40 employees in two locations in Thuringia and Bavaria. Its team is extremely diverse, bringing together, for example, software engineers and PhDs in physics and biology with business management graduates and a highly skilled production team. Employing an almost equal share of women and men, the age range spans from 19 to 65 years of age. All employees are extremely passionate about PreciPoint, its culture and its ambition. “The team has an excellent balance between technology and business leaders. The firm definitely has the potential to be a driving force in digital microscopy and cancer diagnostics in the years ahead. We are very excited to be part of it”, stated Stefan Jahn, bm|t.
