Dashfactory develops and distributes safety products for transportation with a strong focus on individual mobility. The founding idea is the «Dashbike» security camera, which originated from the dangers the founders faced in their everyday sports activities. As passionate cyclists and youth coaches, the founding duo was confronted with countless dangerous situations in road traffic, in which cyclists are often overtaken at extremely close distances, which causes accidents, including hit-and-runs. This led to the idea of a safety camera for cyclists that only saves video material in dangerous situations, especially once the legally required distance of passing cars has been breached and the risk of an accident is established. Compared to dashcams for cars, the rear-mounted bicycle camera must meet additional requirements in order to produce accepted evidence for legal proceedings. The mechanics and functionality of the „Dashbike“ camera are unique, and a patent application has been filed in addition to trademarks. The project «Dashbike» has received multiple awards and much recognition. It won «Best of Central Germany 2019», received third place at the Technology-Fight-Night of ART-KON-TOR, won the university’s founder prize of Friedrich-Schiller-University Jena, is prize winner of the founder idea competition of ThEx Innovativ, and has successfully graduated the SpinLab Accelerator Batch 9. In order to fuel the company, which was founded in November 2019, with necessary financial resources and to drive the rapidly scalable business model forward, the founders contacted the venture capital investor bm|t. In December 2019, the pre-seed financing round for further development and sales preparation was signed and closed. The newly founded company thus reached a major milestone of its business plan. The expertise and network that bm|t contributes as a new shareholder to the company will add great value to the company. The funding serves to establish a legal basis for marketing and protecting the product and clears the way for future investments. «We are very happy to have received the planned investment from our preferred investor,» stated Sandro Beck and Lelia Koenig, Dashfactory´s founders. Importantly, the fresh capital also enables another big step towards serial production. The first part of the product line is the security camera for cyclists, the “Dashbike”. Based on that product, the second major area will be an anonymous collection of digital infrastructure data. Thus, perilous locations in cities can be identified and specific recommendations for action can be derived. By using “Dashbike”, cyclists themselves can actively contribute to the improvement of the cycling infrastructure in their city as well as foster a traffic transition towards more sustainable mobility. The team is currently working on a crowdfunding campaign to be launched on Kickstarter in the coming months and is looking forward to broad support. Anyone who would like to secure his or her first “Dashbike” at an attractive initial price can already join the mailing list at www.dashbike.de.
